I found a pile of old baseball cards in my garage, including this one with a guy named… Oil Can? It’s a raw 1991 Donruss Oil Can Boyd. Slightly off center. Some whiting on the edges. I’d grade it as a 7. It’s a pretty dumb baseball card, but this is where it starts.
My plan is to trade up this card as many times as possible until I end up with something, well, less dumb, and see how far I can get.
The rules are simply that it must be baseball, always a one-for-one trade, and no money or compensation can be included either way (except shipping).
This project is all about documenting the experiences and the people I meet along the way, on forums, murky subreddits, in person at card shows, etc.
Standing at square one, I have no idea where this will lead, but I think it would be awesome to look back from 40 trades in the future to see all the stories, the cards, the personalities that shaped this journey. It’s not about the card, it’s about the people we meet along the w—okay that’s super cheesy. Does anyone want this dumb card??
